Everyone experiences anxiety in some way. You may have experienced it at times in your life such as while driving during rush hour traffic, when preparing to give a public speech, or when studying for an upcoming exam in school. However, almost 20 percent of Americans experience anxiety in a way that affects their ability to participate in life fully.
Anxiety can range from feelings of overwhelming dread or intense fear of the unknown, to irritability, to simply being unable to relax. It can cause you to have racing thoughts, to worry constantly, or to have an irrational fear of certain situations or things. Anxiety may also show up as purely physical symptoms such as a racing heart, stomach cramps, back or neck aches, difficulty sleeping or eating, headaches, nausea, or shakiness.

Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
Traumatic events, such as an accident, natural disaster, or sudden loss of a loved one, can have long lasting and negative effects.
A traumatic event is any event that causes physical, emotional, or psychological harm during which the person experiencing the event feels threatened or frightened for their life or the life of a loved one. Such events can lead us to experience a fight or flight response which can be life saving during a crisis, causing adrenaline to surge, increasing the heart rate, and using all bodily resources to focus on physically getting out of harms way. However, some people will continue experiencing such a response once the event is over and may feel as though they are on guard, startle easily, and have difficulty relaxing or sleeping. They may re-experience the event in the form of flashbacks or nightmares, and may develop symptoms of extreme anxiety, have panic attacks, or have a sense of things not being real or detachment.

What is EMDR therapy?

To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress."
EMDR uses eye movements, or other forms of bilateral stimulation, to reduce the effects of distressing memories and increase your ability to adaptively cope with psychological stress. EMDR can be used in treatment with adults, as well as children, is especially effective in treating posttraumatic stress disorder. It may also be used in the treatment of anxiety, panic attacks, grief, phobias, performance anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, and individuals with history of abuse.
Postpartum Depression, Anxiety, or Traumatic Stress

You may experience changes in sleep or eating habits, have difficulty focusing, worry more than usual or even have intrusive or scary thoughts. You may not feel confident about being left alone with your baby, feel as though you are not a good parent, or you may even experience physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach cramps or nausea, shakiness, or panic attacks.
Affecting more than 1 in 5 women during the postpartum period, postpartum depression and anxiety are considered the most common complication of childbirth. Counseling can help to alleviate symptoms associated with postpartum depression and anxiety, helping you gain relief so that you may enjoy your pregnancy or life as a new parent. Post traumatic stress (PTSD) is another common postpartum complication following a traumatic childbirth, affecting up to 10% of new mothers. Traumatic events such as an emergency c-section, baby requiring to stay in the NICU, or severe physical complications during childbirth or pregnancy may cause a new mother to experience symptoms of PTSD such as extreme anxiety, panic attacks, feelings of unreality or detachment, nightmares, flashbacks, irritability, or insomnia. Such symptoms can be debilitating and can affect a mother's ability to bond with her baby, participate in her relationship with her spouse, or to enjoy life the way she expected to as a new parent.
